Hi All,
Just updated my FordPass app today, and a new FSA was waiting for me - 19N06 - titled Door Latch Freezing Concerns. I did a search and didn't see anything posted yet. Anyone else get this or have any ideas as to what it might be all about? Thanks!
@atlbob - been a long running problem on the 2015-2017 models (both my previous 2015 and my buddy's previous 2016) were affected.
If it is still the same problem, they replace the rods and add a plastic cover over the locking assembly to prevent any water getting past the window seal from dripping down onto the lock assembly. I never had a any issue with mine before the recall, but my buddy had loads of problems with doors not closing/staying closed = obvious safety issue.
I would have thought that they would have had this issue resolved by now, but alas here we are again. Since it is a body issue, this affects all F150s (not diesel-related) Hopefully down in "Hotlanta" this won't be an issue for you, but it will certainly affect owners across the northern part of the country where it gets cold enough for water to freeze...
With a newly-dated 2019 FSA for the same issue, I guess this is a real issue again... Between the 7+ revisions on the needle bearings on the front wheel assemblies and now Round #3 on this same door latch issue, the engineering boys making the in-field revisions aren't having a good success rate!
All I could find referenced an old FSA on on Freezing door locks that said if you experienced it Ford would install additional seals to help prevent it.
Thanks much to all of you for such quick replies! Guess I'll put it on the list to get fixed at the next service; I'm spending a lot of time in the midwest in the winter, so may as well get the dealer to sort it out!
After I came here for advice the first time this happened to me last winter the truck was in the dealership 2 days after to look at the issue. It was the rear drivers side door affected. When I picked it up they told me they had time and did all 4 doors. The repair.... it was silicone spray. I’m not convinced this will cure the issue. When the temp drops make sure you have a rope and or bungee cord because if you can’t close a door once open, you will need it to drive where you need to get. Unless it’s your driver door. Still a pain.
Talked to my Service manager today to see if they could schedule this FSA while they have my truck already during my vacation. He said that this is the same issue the previously plagued the 2015-2017 models and that there is a "new" service kit that is supposed to take care of this issue once-and-for-all.
If you read the way the FSA is worded, they say that your vehicle may or may not be affected = Read this as: Ford will not automatically perform this FSA unless you bring the vehicle in with the issue. Not really ideal but don't be surprised if you bring your truck in and they tell you they won't do it...
