How do you know when this is happening..Had 2 Cummins and 3 Powerstrokes and never heard of this till now, I understand the Def mess, but does it let you know it's doing it.. Thanks Jerry

Not usually. I enabled the DPF percentage gauge with FORSCAN so I would know, otherwise the only way to tell is I think it disables auto start-stop while it's doing it. The owner's manual says there are times it will tell you but I think that's only if it isn't able to do the passive regen enough i.e. really short trips all the time. My 20 minute drive to work is enough that I've never seen that message.

@Gradymaci have you done the forscan work to show DPF % full on your dash yet? Once it hits 100% full a regen is imminent. So now we know when a regen is about to occur, we can let it happen, especially if you are going to be driving for a while, or postpone it till a longer trip.

I have had it hit 100% full just a few blocks from my house and arrive home with it clicking and ticking in the carport, then it is at 95% or 90% next time I get in. I try not to let that happen so I disable auto regen for a short period. Then I can get a much better cleaning with the longer regen.

How do you disable auto regen? I have the DPF percentage so I know when it's coming but didn't know you could postpone it, that would be awesome.

It is done thru forscan again but not changing the various codes like so many other changes.

No problem, some say the dealer has done it for them, but my dealer was too dumb to even disable the double honk (another forscan trick). Forscan lets us use a normal laptop with a OBDII wifi connector to change several ways the truck interfaces with you. Lots of threads on this. It is for most Ford products, not just diesels. If you wish, downloading a forscan program is free but if you want to do long term work with it there is a fee. It also allows you to observe trouble codes, operating parameters and such.
