Ford Patents Electric Sliding Bed

Ford has patented an electric sliding bed for the upcoming F-150 hybrid. Actually seems extremely useful and kinda wondering why nobody has done it before to be honest. Nonetheless, I wish that it would be coming with the upcoming F-150 Diesel but I'm sure we'll see it implemented at a later date. I wonder if the weight it can support would be lessened?

Pair this with the electric retractable bed covers from these guys and you have a total ease of operation setup! Can't post links just yet so I'll type it out.

That would be pretty darn cool. I'm pretty sure both those products have undergone some intense testing so they're rugged and up for the challenges.

Too bad this seems hard to have in a bed that has a 5th wheel unless the fitment for both will be tight but still able to work. Only problem at that point would be figuring out where to keep the sliding bed if you want it on the go.

I wonder if it's that easily removable in the first place. Could be something that just stays in there no ?

That's just one more expensive component that could break down the road. Honestly, I have no idea when this would be useful unless you're using the truck bed as a camper and need the extra floor space for a large living area.

There are a lot of things this could help with. Instead of having to climb in the bed to remove tools or bags of stuff or whatever, you can bring it out and access it from both sides.

Well with people using trucks as SUV alternatives it does make for easier use of the entire bed for storage when having an enclosed bed. Just roll the bed out to get your things. Once you see it from that perspective, this idea Ford came up soon becomes very powerful.

For removing AND putting things into the bed, this makes the whole operation leaps and bounds more convenient. You can even utilize a forklift of something to drop, for examples sake, an engine or something onto the bed when it comes out and dramatically reduce the risk of damaging your truck.

Great point and expanding on that i'll be surprised if its not at least an option on the superduty since that's what you really find being used for this sort of stuff on the work site. But with people having gone this long without a sliding bed, the real question is how many in that segment will budge? More likely F150 guys will
