Ticking from DPF/Muffler area during regen

Anyone else heard this? I did a Google search and lots of articles about this noise from Cummins and 6.7 Powerstroke drivers.

Is there anyway to know our trucks are in regen mode? A buddy of mine has the GMC Canyon diesel and his pops up on the screen informing him it started regen mode. I have about 1,200 miles on my truck now, and as far as I can tell it has entered regen mode at least 2 times as I am just under 3/4 full on DEF tank now, and I have that gauge displayed to keep an eye on it.

I enabled the DPF % Full view with Forscan.

I can tell when it goes into Regen, when it gets to 100% it immediately goes into Regen. Mine can regen in 20 mins or so of driving.

Your hear ticking from the heated metal. The regen (if like the 6.7) runs the EGT to almost 1300 degrees. The ticking I've heard (6.7) is usually as the pipes, etc. cool back down.
I haven't heard any ticking from the 3.0 yet. I've had to put a jug of DEF in mine already. It gave me the 500 mile warning at 2,650 miles. I"m at 3770 miles, the oil life is showing 57% remaining life.
The 6.7 always showed a message when doing the regen, I haven't seen one on the 3.0
I had Edge gauges on the 6.7 so I could see the EGT's and make sure I didn't shut the engine off while it was still at high temps. I need to find some gauges for this one so I can see it on this one.

Yeah it apparently does not pop up like 6.7 when doing a regen.

On the note of DEF fluid, I have a little of 8000 miles on the truck. It is using about 1 gallon per thousand miles

I've only heard the ticking a few times after parking in the garage when returning home. From this thread, it does sound like metal under the truck cooling that was heated up for an in-progress DPF regen. This is why I will be adding the DPF % with FORScan so that I can know if I have reached 100% and DPF regen is in progress or not.
