As someone who does not own that motor,(Ram Ecodiesel) I think you should forget about tearing your motor apart, but rather think about how you can make your motor last and give great service and performance. As far as tuning, I would think about tuning for more efficient operation, rather than maximum hp/tq. For example, eliminating EGR will probably add longevity, and eliminating DEF injection and even eliminating the SCR/ CAT probably will gain mpgs. Just saying, I have a GDE tune on my Eco Diesel Ram that gives me about 4 more mpgs, but only a few more hp/tq. By eliminating a bunch of the EPA mandated BS, my motor runs cleaner! Using less fuel and having a bit more power is gravy. You ask, how do I know it runs cleaner? In 43,000 miles, the inside of my tail pipes shine like a bottle! My heavy ass Ram has been averaging over 30 mpg winter and 33+ mpgs summer, btw.
