At this point, you might be wondering why all the fuss is all about, especially if you are not into trucks. The situation is easy - Ford’s 2016 F-150 has a body and chassis made entirely from aluminum, including its bed, while Chevrolet and its competitors use steel.
What's funny is when you start asking questions, the direction Ford went with its truck makes a lot of sense. You have to ask the questions of who's buy? what are they using it for? what's the tolerance of the F-150 for that use? etc. You'll find that even the F-150 in the condition it rolls off the production line exceeds what the average person will be doing to it.

okay, so, let's be honest... none of you fat *****, regardless of what truck brand you own, will be doing anything other than hauling yourself around in either of these trucks.

Or just buy truck bed liner... Not the best commercial when you think about it, most people won't be dropping chunks of stone from five feet into a bed and they also won't try to balance a toolbox which probably has expensive tools on an edge.
Also, isn't GM going to use aluminium in their next gen trucks and truck beds? How will they try to advertise that in the future I wonder.
That's what the whole controversy is about. They will be stepping to aluminum in the near future so I wouldn't understand why they would release something that's pretty much digging your own grave. It'll be interesting what route they choose to try and save themselves from this one.
Indeed not the greatest of videos. But chances are they did that purposely to get people talking. If they made everything ideal and without flaw... then the shelf life of the marketing material would be very short.
It seems like they have something figured out with the new upcoming aluminum beds. I guess it won't just be aluminum, I'm guessing some sort of hybrid that still retains the lightweight but is much stronger ?
Doesn't Ford pickup trucks come with standard bed liners? that would increase the bed durability would it not? THe commercial is under the assumption that people would just dump cinder blocks into the trunk without one.
I'm not too sure... it should be possible to get them without the bed liner. Some people prefer going the line-x spray guard method instead. I believe the liner is optional.
By default all or most people know that you do want to line the bed, no one in their right mind just throws things in a bed like that. And you'll see that mentioned a lot throughout the comments section of the video, even Chevy guys are saying it, not just those trying to defend Ford.
That is definitely true. If someone is sporting without a bed-liner, chances are they don't use it. Maybe rarely.
But the vast majority of people that buy a truck, without a doubt, immediately get it with a proper bed liner, or immediately get a sprayed liner done. Without fail.
That's usually how it works, but often guys that don't use the bed for heavy duty stuff get a simple liner and a good cover for the bed then use it as a massive trunk.
Well Chevy did manage to produce a dramatic ad which is pretty much what they were looking to do. Any potential truck buyer or current owner worth their salt will be adding a bedliner, especially if they plan to use it for hauling materials.
Funny how someone mentioned that some landscape blocks punched through a chevy 2011 1500 bed.
Chevy just gave Honda the perfect advertisement opportunities with their new ad. It's pretty funny. Now Honda should keep one upping Chevy, as someone said in a video comment:
how about slamming the bed with a sledge hammer a few times.
That would be the perfect way to take full advantage. Start doing things beyond what they can or at least seem like they can't do. Start pushing them against the ropes
Rumor has it that it was due to the profit margins. If the salesmen sold you an additional liner then they make more money than if it was a factory option.
That would make a lot of sense. Making a composite bed makes it ready to go out of the box. With the bare beds, you have more opportunity to sell bed liners and what not and make a lot more money
That's too bad, with money being the bottom line some things liken the truck beds won't change for a long while. At least aluminium is lightweight so the truck bed won't be as heavy as steel.
