So I was detailing the truck yesterday and noticed that small surface rust spots and bubbles are forming on the stock running boards. Everything is still under factory warranty but this is unbelievable after just 2 years of ownership. I going to have the dealer inspect the spots when I bring the truck in for an oil cooler replacement because the (different) dealer damaged the oil cooler when doing the last oil change. Called Ford corp and complained ask for some sort of help or relief but got nothing/nonsense instead. After 30+ years of Ford ownership is really in jeopardy with this sh*t show.

Lucky you. I have 2020 F150 with less than 15k miles . Running boards rusting. Ford says too bad not covered under warranty. Getting run around from Ford and dealership. Pretty piss poor for a $60k truck.

Not trying to rub things in here, but I've had the power running boards that come standard w/Platinum level trim on my last three (3) F150 Platinums = not sure what they are made of (stainless or aluminum) but they have never rusted. They are an expensive upgrade if ordered separately as an add-on, but they are worth the price, as I have never seen any running board (painted or chromed) that can sustain a few New England winters with all the salt & sand used here.

Common issue with OEM chrome running boards, unfortunately. My dad had the same issue with the OEM chrome running boards on his Super Duty and had them replaced under warranty.

The power boards are made of aluminum. The issue with the power boards is operating motors, hinges, etc. can all corrode or get jammed up by road grime/salt/dirt/etc. I've run into this a few times with mine, and have to clean them out and re-lubricate all the moving parts.

Replacing the entire board assembly is not cheap, but there are a few suppliers where you can order separate pieces and parts to keep them repaired and in good working order.
