after talking with a 6.7 liter owner who just got through spending 8 grand to replace his fuel system after his Bosch fuel pump went out.



What fuel additives are you all running and what do you all recommend. I do not want this to happen to my truck and assume it would be a 6 plus grand fix on our trucks.

Yup, Opti lube is good, Hot Shot's Secret EDT (or winter treat), and Stanadyne performance/lubricity are all great options. I don't believe that the motorcraft cetane one has lubricity additives, but raising your cetane has other benefits, so might as well get one of the above mentioned as they do it all.

I use Stanadyne performance summer or winter mix depending on time of year. Their "lubricity" formula is like extra strength lubricity and recommend for winter blends/diesel #1 both of which I don't get much of where I live. Not sure any of this is requisite but it's cheap insurance. Some stations may have upgraded diesel that may not require this but I'm no expert on that so I buy the cheapest diesel I can get and throw in some of this. I buy larger quantities off the internet and pour 7oz or so into smaller bottles ready for my typical 20ish gallon fill-up. The summer mix is a little cheaper, why I switch to that when temps don't demand more.

Lots of these products are similar. I buy Stanadyne cause it's been around a while. Others may chime in there are better ones though, I've seen where some offer better lubricity. Hope that helps.

Tha is bought some performance formula from amazon figured I needed to start to this cause usa diesel is not as lubricated as the european stuff. Too expensive of a system

Been using OptiLube XPD since my 2012 VW Golf TDI, and now in this 2018 F150 Diesel. Never an issue, runs quiet, smooth and seems like a bit better on the MPG. Live down south, so no need for season changes. Highly recommend XPD.

@ScotsSkier - I am running both Stanadyne Performance Formula (for its all-around protection) and Lubricity Formula (because the Performance Formula came up short in the infamous "Spicer Study") both of which you can find referenced in this thread: Diesel Fuel additive recommendations

I also had a Titan 40 gal XXL tank installed last fall so I am carrying quite a bit more than the standard 26 gal tank:
As I plan on pre-ordering the new Titan 40 gal XXL tank for my 2018 Platinum F150 PS Diesel w/5.5' bed tomorrow, this is what I ordered from Thoroughbred Diesel who happen to running a 10% off Labor Day weekend sale this weekend:
  • Stanadyne Performance Formula - "One Shot" 8oz Bottle (CASE of 24 Bottles) - Treats 30 gallons of diesel fuel per bottle - 38564C
  • Stanadyne Lubricity Formula - "One Shot" 8oz Bottle (CASE of 24 Bottles) - Treats 15 gallons of diesel fuel per bottle - 38559C
Figuring with the new 40 gallon fill-up, I will use one (1) bottle of each so that the combination of both will:
a.) Make up for the Lubricity deficiency in the Performance Formula
b.) Cover (with some safety factor) the new Titan 40 gallon XXL tank capacity
and with my driving habits, this should last me one (1) year.
I add a bottle of both Stanadyne Performance Formula and Stanadyne Lubricity Formula to every tank throughout the year for year-round protection.
Overkill? Maybe, but I don't expect any fuel system issues from bad fuel or ULSD while running both Stanadyne Formulas...

Just be aware that Stanadyne Lubricity Formula has some of the same protection as Performance Formula (less Cetane Booster and Freeze protection), while the Stanadyne Performance Formula provides better/more all-around protection:

The only difference I saw was the highly concentrated lubricant, the rest of it the performance formula has down pat which is why I went with that.

I could see using some of the lubricating formula during winter months, in the end is this going to save us from a 6 thousand dollar fuel system repair? Who knows better safe than sorry

I've got a 2017 Super Duty 6.7. I almost didn't buy it due to my research about fuel pump failures. I did more research and settled on Opti-Lube XPD. Do a web search for the "Spicer Report". That study will probably help you decide what fuel additive to use.

well that is good I was on my second tank before the unthinkable happened, I have loved learning and sharing information with everyone on this forum.



The Standyne appeared to make some improvement in mpg, but as of now I am truck less. Hopefully I will be able to get another one soon but we will see what happens. Loved being on this forum and think everyone so much.
