I’ve used these for years and have never ever had a problem due to dirt into the topside. IMO, the cold air intake is NOT worth the money. I like using the KN because there’s no need to worry about replacement, is it too dirty, etc. Oil based filtration goes back to the beginning of engines when they had oil bath filters. I’d say about 1 million miles trouble free topside for me.

Late to game here but I ran K & N filters for 30 years, but have since gone back to Donaldson paper. Where I live (southwest desert) we have very fine dust, not much sand. When it's really dry and disturbed I call it "moon dust", think very fine flour, gets into even the best sealed buildings. Turns out it was going through the K & N as well. While it never caused me engine issues, I didn't like running my finger in the intake tube and seeing that dust coating. High quality paper has stopped the dust. I'm not knocking K & N, they are great in the right climate, but just not for me anymore.

I have one, everything working fine.
I run an S&B and like it. Love the sound and it seems to offer better throttle response and a slight mpg gain. It won’t pay for itself in mpg gains, but with the larger muffler delete exhaust I run, more s as it in more air out seems to increase my mpg, throttle response, ear candy, and overall performance.
