Engine Oil Drain Plug

16240 Views 38 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  SlurpRooster
Looking for information on the engine oil drain plug. Does anyone have a part # or specs? I'd like to buy a Fumoto valve...has anyone done so? If so, which one? I installed the full skid plate kit from RCI and one of the Fumoto valves that you can stick a hose on would be very helpful. I've checked all the OEM Ford sites and there is no listing. Fumoto's website only goes up to 2017. The only quick change oil drain plug I've found for the 2018's is a billet replacement for the plastic plugs in the gas trucks.

Pretty sure the oil pan on the F150 PS 3.0L version of this engine has a re-designed oil pan compared to the JLR version of the engine used in Europe.

The Meet the lady who reconfigured our 3.0 for the F150 video that @Dunrollin posted talks about this new oil pan design in between the 7:10 and 8:30 marks in the video.

I wouldn't try to cross-reference any part lists from the JLR version of the engine, as Ford US could have put any size/pitch plug they wanted into this new/completely re-designed "Die-cast Structural Oil Pan" they put into our trucks.
No picture. Just needed to complete the oil change.
True, forgot the oil pan change. :frown2:

If no one posts the size before I change oil, I have a local hardware store with a thread gauge and will get the correct size for everyone.

Sorry it didn't fit but thanks for letting us all know. I ordered one and was planning on swapping it out on the next oil change.
From what I remember, the drain plug was silver with a blue rubber gasket. The only plug I can see from Ford that is like that and matches the broad "6730" part number on the Ford parts website is part 9L8Z6730A. This looks like the same plug used on the 2017 Explorer 3.5. When I put that in on the Fumoto site, it said this is the correct one which is 12mm instead of 14mm.

F-107 | Fumoto® Engine Oil Drain Valves
Ok third and final post about this today :). I just confirmed over chat with Ford parts that the full part number of the drain plug for our trucks is the one I mentioned earlier so the F-107 Fumoto valve should fit.
Thanks Scott.
Well I got a chance to install the Fumoto valve yesterday. Went in just fine and lined up so its easy to turn the lever. Photo is attached. Looks like it adds just the amount of distance needed to avoid having any oil hit the metal shield in front of it. Turned the truck on and let it run for about 5 minutes before putting the splash shield back on. No leaks. I wish you could actually have the ability to torque it to a certain spec but I just got it hand tight and turned it an additional 1/8th turn with an adjustable wrench as instructed. I'll probably take the shield off(should have just left it off for now) today or this weekend to check again but it should be fine.

@Scott_Faunce thanks for figuring this out for us that the F-107 is the proper fit. I haven't changed my own oil for years now, but just ordered the F-107 and may start doing my own changes again (no more dropping the drain plug into the pan of oil as it rushes out).

Does anyone know if there is a YouTube video illustrating an oil change on our trucks, like getting at the oil filter? Perhaps it is in the Owners Manual, but I haven't checked yet. I understand the filter is at the top of this engine instead of the bottom?

I bought the F-106 base don this thread also and found out it didn't fit. When someone actually screws one in please let us know so I can order the correct one. I've got one that is useless to me already so I'm not ordering another until someone actually installs one. The F-106 is definitely larger diameter so the 12mm one should be correct but I'm going to wait this time.
On another note, I really don't like the way the shields underneath are designed and the headache they create to change the oil. I took a jig saw under with me and cut out a hole to access the drain plug, I'm not taking that thing loose again unless its to remove it entirely.

Correct oil filter is on the top under the PowerStroke shroud. You will need a 1.25" socket for the canister and I have the torque specs. for it at home. I will try and remember to drop you a note what that spec is tonight.
Getting ready for my first oil change at just shy of 7k miles. Will send a sample in just to see where we are to reference future changes. I will post the results. If I can source the Kendall at my local store I will use it. Otherwise it's T6. Is the torque spec for the filter canister 25 nm?

That's correct (18 ft/lbs). You'll need a 1 1/4"(32mm) socket for the canister.
Looks like this thread has been going for a while so maybe their site was not up dated yet but the Fumoto website lists the F-107 as the drain valve for our trucks. I bought one but have not installed it yet
Its a M12 x 1.75, not an M14. Any way to delete wrong comments?

@SlurpRooster good suggestion. Hope this helps. I put a Fumoto on a few years ago and really am pleased with it. Have it on all my vehicles now.

Come to think of it I seem to be down to 19% oil life. Looks like I will do some Fumoto work tomorrow.

Follow up: Changed oil today, T6 5w40. Oil monitor now says 100% instead of 19%. I examined the stopper, ie nub, and while it looked OK it seemed hardened so I went ahead and replaced it. Edited to add: FL2081 filters are just $8.52 on Amazon with next day.

@Dunrollin Thanks for the insight on the Fumoto valves. Went with the F137N (F137 replaced the F107), already holesaw'd my way through the carpet underbody, going to install next oil change. Will keep you post how it survives the Canadian winters and salt.
