I have read that the EcoBoosts need drain holes in the intercooler due to condensation build up. I am not hugely familiar with diesels but knowledgeable and just wondering if that is something we need to do with the diesel? Not having spark plugs may negate this, just curious if anyone knows.

I remember this issue with the Ecoboost but I think it is inherent to just them. Apparently they were too efficient so I was told. Mine was after the issue but I do know the TSB to the techs was to put a blocker shield in front of a portion of the cooler. Which sounds ridiculous to me.
Now a different question. AFE offers a Intercooler upgrade for our trucks. Does anyone know anything about them? Worth the $1500.00?

The grill shutters in front of the intercooler prevent any moisture from freezing inside it and blocking flow.

I was wondering the same about this. Seems to me that if it does help, the increased flow connecting hoses would be worth the money. $400 for 18%, $1500 for 23% for the entire inter cooler.

This was a problem with 2011/ early 2012, 3.5 Ecos. When you'd cruise at high humidity the condensation collected in the bottom of the intercooler and if you suddenly accelerated the engine would take a gulp of that water and go "Limp Home". After a few updates the engines were detuned enough for this not to happen. But Man did we lose that Early Model Power. My Tech admitted that everyone complained about the loss of spunk in their motors. My 2011 was a beast, before it was "Fixed" . My 2014 has never had the intercooler issue. I wouldn't drill the intercooler unless you've had water ingestion problems. jmho

The extra money also goes towards lower IAT and EGT (100-200⁰ on EGT if those who have tried it are to be believed). Food for thought.

There is a guy on the facebook groups that did the AFE intercooler pipes and he said it yielded a significant EGT temp drop and improvement in performance. I dont think he did the full intercooler yet.
