Light towing MPG

I finally had a chance to do a little light towing with the new truck. 1,000 mile round trip on US and state highways with 55-65 mph limits and rolling hills. On the way up 27.1 and 19.2 returning pulling a 2,000 boat, hand calculated. The dash readout was about 1 mpg higher. Around 30-40% better than my '17 5.0/6 speed F150. Very little down shifting on the return trip and never below 8th gear on the steepest grades. Very happy with the 3.0 choice.

I have had a similar experience. I towed a Miata on a dolly (2800ish lbs) about 600 miles from PA to MI. 18.1 MPG through PA, and 19.8 through OH at roughly 70 mph. Its was pretty easy on the DEF unlike when I towed a CUCV on a trailer (8200lbs) the same route in reverse. It returned about 14 to 14.5 most of the trip.

I get better fuel economy towing a 7000# travel trailer then my wife gets with her V8 Durango towing her around.

If you can keep the load below the height of the cab 18-19 not impossible. I have towed a 10k tractor and trailer but the tractor was 4ft above the cab and got 16-17mpg.

I’ve pulled my landscape trailer with three quads back from northern Wisconsin and netted 22mpg for a 300 mile trip. My dads deleted 6.7L empty only got 19. Then last fall, I pulled my 6k travel trailer back from Door County Wisconsin and netted 16.5mpg. Both hand calculated. I love my 3.0L.
