I just bought a new 2018 power stroke lariat a week ago. My third F-150, first diesel. So far, its great! Big improvement in fuel economy over my 3.5l ecoboost, although i'm only getting around 23.5 mpg combined city/hwy.

Are fuel additives worth a try?

Looking forward to talking with you guys!

@77rangerf150 from a fellow Minnesotan welcome to the forum!

You are tracking well with 23.5 mpg combined. Mine has 10,775 miles on it with 22.2 mpg combined, but I had to endure the winterized diesel for the first 8,000 miles; otherwise, I'm sure I'd be right with you at ~23.5.

I used Power Service white bottle (DIESEL FUEL SUPPLEMENT +CETANE BOOST) through the winter for its antigel additive that I purchased at local Fleet Farm. That served me well, as a few days after Christmas I was staying at a resort cabin doing some ice fishing up on Winnie with the truck parked outside in the elements all night at -14F. Truck fired right up in the morning as if it were parked in the garage and never had any gelling issues all winter, even during the Polar Vortex.

Once the winter ended (Is it over? It was snowing up north even last weekend!) I started experimenting with some other additives, and currently I am using Fuel Ox.

Where are you at in MN?

I'm in Buffalo. Truck is currently at the dealer getting a block heater put in it. I found it brand new sitting on a lot in Iowa, couldn't pass up that deal.

So, do all the diesel f-150's have a 26gal fuel tank? there was no option for a larger tank on the 6.5' box? I read your post about going with the titan tank, how do you like it?

Actually, my truck is in at the dealership today getting the 48-gallon Titan replacement tank installed as well as replacing my fuel filters because I have ~290 Engine Hours and with biodiesel it is recommended to replace fuel filters every 300 Engine Hours. They should have my truck back to me tomorrow. I already reprogrammed the truck to have the 48-gallon tank size via FORScan before I took it in to them this morning.

All F150 diesels are standard with the 26-gallon tank size, and you need to have the 6.5' long bed in order to get the 48-gallon Titan replacement tank. If you do, and crawl under your truck you will see a big open area in front of the current fuel tank that allows for the jump up in tank size. I'm not sure why Ford didn't offer tank size options up front for the 6.5' long bed either--but it can be done via aftermarket.

My average mpg over the last 1,243.7 miles is 25.9 (lots of interstate highway miles in there, I was at 28.3 until doing a bunch of around town driving). 25 mpg * 48 gallons = 1,200 miles on a tank. I'm looking forward to not fueling up as often.

I will post an update on this in the Titan Tank thread with some more information within the next few days to week.

@77rangerf150 - 36 gallon Extended Range tank is available on gas models as a factory-ordered option (had 36 gallon tank on my 2015 Platinum V8) but the 5 gallon DEF tank on the diesel takes up the spot where the 36 gallon Extended Range tank would go. The 48 gallon aftermarket Titan tank that @kdjasper is getting is only available on F150 Diesels w/6.5' bed option, so I can't get one with my 2018 F150 Platinum PS Diesel FX4. A 1200 mile range would be ridiculous on a 1/2 ton pickup...

There is currently a recall for the wiring on block heaters that I am understanding won't be resolved until Ford gets the parts available sometime this fall.

Those of us having the block heaters have the following showing up in our Ford Pass app:

Recalls:
Disable Engine Block Heater Cord 19S11

Field Service Actions:
Engine Block Heater Cord Replacement 19G01

I'd be interested if your Ford Pass app shows that you have the above show up after the block heater is put in. It may not since your truck VIN didn't ship from the factory with a block heater, so you might want to ask your dealer about this when you pick up your truck.
