I’m picking up my new 3.0 power stroke in 2 weeks. I’m really looking forward to it - although a friend of mine came down pretty hard on me tonight about it. Blah blah blah....not reliable....blah blah blah. I hope to prove him wrong!
I think you made a swell choice.. on the truck that is... your friend sounds like a debbie downer. So far these have been out a year, and the only real issue has been the screws in the EGR bypass valve.. however that has been recalled and fixed, if you ordered yours recently this should already be updated... dealerships aren't allowed to let them off the lot without this fixed. Other than that there hasn't been any issues. A friend of mine is a ford mechanic, and says they've sold a ton of these and haven't had any come back with any engine specific issues. So far so good, the 6.0's were blowing themselves up already at this point, so all signs point to a reliable engine. Just take care of it!

Out of curiosity, what does your friend drive, a long in the tooth 14mpg Tundra? (That's my guess based on the reliability comment, or some other Toyota model.)
I actually traded in my Tundra for the 3.0. I never had any issues with the Tundra. As far as the comments - they somewhat hold water. He runs and owns the local school bus contract here so he runs nothing but Ford. He himself owns 2x 3.0 power strokes. Between the 2 trucks - they have been in the shop 18 times....yeesh!
