Hey y’all,

Just picked up an 18 XLT that was a dealer demo. Drove it 500 miles home and so far I love it!! It only had 7100 miles on it, still had stickers on it and that new truck smell. I averaged 28.4mpg on the way home running 80+ so I look forward to this being my DD.
One question if anyone can answer...the truck now has 7500 miles on it and I will put on about 2000+/month. My oil life right now reads 55%. (There’s no record of oil change so far) Soooo,
Should I go ahead and change it soon?
Or follow the computer recommendation?

I’ve already scoured this site and its FULL of info. Y’all are great.
This is my first diesel, so I’ll be doing a lot of reading and researching.

@KingofTN - let me be the first to welcome you here to our little forums!

Doesn't sound like the oil has been changed since it came form the factory, which means the factory oil (with the extra moly) is still in your engine and you are beyond the 5K break-in period.

My Service Manager made it clear to me that you should change your engine oil every 12 months if you're not putting enough miles or the Intelligent Oil Life Monitor (IOLM) isn't telling you to change it.

To be safe, I would change the factory oil now, as you are well beyond this 12 month rule.

I'd also run some fuel conditioner like Stanadyne Performance Formula in case of any water/condensation in the fuel.

Welcome again to the forums!

@KingofTN - by rare, @Dunrollin means that the 3.0L PS Diesel engine option was only available on the Lariat and above trim levels in 2018 -- the only way to get the diesel engine option in an XLT in the 2018 introductory model year was for your dealer to order the truck as part of a "fleet order" for businesses (intended for commercial usage only) Starting with the 2019 models, you can get the 3.0L PS Diesel engine option in any F150 trim level.

Yea that’s what the dealership had told me when I got it. They had special ordered this truck (and a few others) for loaners as customers were getting their vehicles worked on. And they used them as demos as well. I feel like I got a good deal on the truck because the PS was a must for me, but the upper level trims was not necessary. I scoured the country for a low mileage PS under $35K and there were very few. 2 at this dealership left.
