Nice spec. Were you by any chance looking into diesels from any other truck makers before coming over to Ford? Hard to ignore the fact the Nissan Titan Diesel and RAM 1500 Diesel have been out for quite some time already.

I was looking at the ram but i didnt like the cab as much as the f150 cab. I currently have a 2000 7.3 [non crew cab] and plan on keeping it for heavy hauling, just need something more efficient to drive to work, haul around the family in that can also handle the regular impromtu trips to the hardware/rental store. So ended up renting and f150 last yr and liked the cabin so that pretty much sold me. Plus, im a diesel mechanic so i tend to favor diesels.

The Ram's towing capability with their engine is a good 3K pounds lower than the F150. The Titan doesn't tow much more than the F150 and gets pretty lousy mileage.

When you're looking for a daily driver (with good MPG) that can tow a heavy trailer (8-9K fully loaded) once in a while, neither of the competition really stacks up very well in at least one of those categories.

The Ford was supposed to do both well. But then the 4x4 comes out with only 1 MPG better than the 2.7 Ecoboost and the Ford offering starts to lose its appeal as well.

If the Chevy doesn't stack up either, I'm probably going to punt and buy an old 3/4 ton to tow with on occasion and get a decent car to daily drive with (or swap a Cummins R2.8 into my Cherokee).
