Hope this is OK to ask here... I told myself if I ever had to chain a 4x4 - I would turn around and go home....

I now find myself in need of a pair , looks like the F150 needs a S type... those of you you have snow chains - recall where you got them ? Out Stock locally ..

Thanks in advance.

Boy do we.... Have a mountain cabin so I trade in my flat lander badge in once in a while... This year has been a record setter....

Seems that the 275/65R18 are a bit tight for the standard latter snow chains...Might end up with cables... Standing by for some guidance from the forum.

I feel overqualified to answer this question, as I have been using chains on and off (pun intended) for the past week and a half, in SW Washington. We don't normally get as much snow as we've had this year.

I bought mine at Les Schwab Tire. $200 for the pair. These are the type that have a rigid plastic inner loop (with cable inside the plastic tubes), that makes them easier to stuff around the inside of the wheel and hook up. Glad I bought the easy-install type, as I live about 500 feet above the local freezing elevation, and I need to take them off as soon as I get down to the paved county road. And then put them back on to get up to my house. I've had to do that two-step a half dozen times in the past week and a half.

I hear ya on not driving if you can't get there with 4WD, but my truck still has the stock all-season tires on it, and I needed the chains to get up the hill to my house. C'est la vie.

I'll post a picture of the label on the bag they came in.

Thank you very much for the reply... Just what I was looking for. I have the same issue. I can get to driveway of our cabin , but cannot get up the drive without chains - Found that out yesterday. One follow up...

Did you have any clearance issues . Ford says on 4x4 no chains on front , must be SAE "S" on back.

Expecting to hear from some forum members like @beaker or @snowshew or our Canadian brethren who deal with deep snow on a more regular basis, as I no expert on vehicle chains.... Chains for tractors is a different story however!

Here in the Northeast, we've had snow about 3-4 times this winter, with never more than 3" of accumulation = pretty uneventful when it came to snow... We did however have a cold snap below zero F where I got to try out my block heater.

No issues using them on my truck. I put them on the rear axle. It's a 2021 Lariat with towing package and FX4, which requires 3.55 diff gears. I'm still using the OE all-season 20" tires. If I had some tires with more aggressive M&S tread, I might not have needed the chains. When I use the chains, I also put it into either 4H or 4L.

The traditional type chains with the dozen or so short chains or diamond-barred chains that go laterally across the tire provide even more traction. They are a little cheaper, but more of a PITA to put on.

I have a twin to your truck, but 2019. Stock tires are Michelins 275/65R 18. If anything would be the 275 width and the inside clearance that might be a problem . What size are you running w/the chains ?

In 2021, the towing option required the 275/60R20 wheels and tires. That's what I have. The tires are Hankook and say "M+S" on the sidewalls, but they're not really M+S tires. More like highway tread. There is plenty of room for the chains on the rear tires, not close to any interference. I also installed the Ford accessory mud flaps and they don't interfere either. There's lots of room inside the rear fenders on these trucks. Look at some of the oversize tires people put on them!

Your tire/wheel combination should be equal in diameter and width to mine, so the same chains should fit. But just go to the website and type in your tie size to see the application.

I personally do not own chains for the F-150. I run studded Nokian Hakkapeliittas which have never stopped my progress. I find visibility from snow coming over the hood and snow clogging the air filter to be my limiting factors. That said, I don't have the super-steep grades that some of you have to deal with.
