Sync upgrades but no XML log file is created

Hi Folks,

Anyone update Sync successfully, but never have the XML log file written?

That is what has happened to me, and I can't update Sync any further without the log file, or presumably a trip to a dealer.

I've "updated" Sync a few times for the same version, each time was successful, but no log file has ever been written.

Thoughts?

Wayback in 2019 I updated my system from the Russian bootleg site. Everything worked great accept for the Siri voice was in, uh, Russian? Anyway the issue took about a month to resolve as my APIM had very little RAM with which to load the correct updates. During this month I heard a few sharp comments from the owner of the brand new truck and she was not happy about my lack of progress.

I was never so happy to hear Siri's english instructions once the whole thing was resolved. Mrs. Dunrollin made me promise not to experiment on the APIM again. Her mistake was to not get me to promise to experiment with the remainder of the truck, so I still have my fun. At her expense.

Sorry I can't help on your issue but I will send you a PM that may assist. Hope you get it resolved- those are rediculously expensive "radios".

Had a quick chat with Sync support from Ford.com website. No XML update log being produced is a known issue. I updated to Sync 3, Version 3.4, Build 21098_PRODUCT.

Their solution was:
Please connect to an available Wi-FI network and the update will be confirmed once a key cycle is completed.

You will need to follow these steps for a key cycle:

1.Turn the vehicle completely off. The vehicle engine should not be running and the vehicle should not be in accessory mode. Many newer vehicles will keep the radio on, even when the car is turned off, until a door is opened.
2.Open the driver’s door and lock the door.
3.Close the driver’s door.
4.Wait two minutes and ensure the radio display turns off completely.
5.Restart the vehicle.

A Wi-Fi signal strength of 4 bars (full strength) with reliable internet service will typically allow SYNC 3 to confirm the update. It may take up to a month to confirm the update due to network conditions/connectivity.

Yea, I too have found Fords techs mostly useless! I purchased a thumb drive update for navigation thru Ford because of an upcoming, month long trip. The thumb drive cost $40. Dollars. And was the only way to update according to fords website, the website, uses your vin number to determine if you need an update. I have tried using the thumb drive several times to no avail. All that happens is an error message. There is supposed to be several times during installation where you need to have to confirm or select options. None of those ever happened!!! When I called tech support, they said that I was getting the error code because the update was already installed?? They could not explain how I could possibly have gotten an update that is only available on a thumb drive available through them??? When I complained about the $40 bucks for a useless thumb drive and asked for a refund, they e-mailed instructions to erase the current navigation data and reinstall using the thumb drive???? They refuse to send a refund unless I do it!!!! So, DON’T pay for thumb drives from Ford. And although my experience with tech support may not be a regular occurrence , I probably won’t ever call them ever again except as a last resort! The people here on the forum are much more helpful with real experience and expertise.
