This needs a separate thread to assist owners looking for a solution to the low pressure warning after oil has been changed. Thanks to member @mrjake who supplied the TSB for us, The TSB can be downloaded at TSB 22-2386

As this unfolds we can add more information on this solution to a big problem with our engines. For those unfamiliar with the issue, improperly installing the oil filter can dislodge the drain stopper causing loss of pressure at idle when the engine is hot. We have long suspected the repair is simple- if we could get the part needed to fix the stopper. Ford finally has a part number out that should solve this. Part # is ML3Z-6A606-A and should cost about $12.

A special thanks to all the members who have followed this and offered their ideas and opinions, especially @Kval who first put us on to the cause of the problem and how the Ford mechanics were dealing with it.

It's good that they're finally acknowledging this- except for the way it's worded. That makes this sound like Ford considers this a "one and done" check, which doesn't sit well with me. A rubber plug sitting in hot oil that could potentially break every time the filter housing is opened means this should be checked every oil change. But that's just me.

@mrjake added this information to the other thread, so as of the end of October 2022 here is the situation:
I checked with my local dealer and was informed the factory had 254 of them but they won't be released to dealers for another week or so. Price quote from dealer was $32. Google it for around $12 + shipping from what Dunrollin said.
A good guess is a dealer would do this under warranty but worst case if it is 0.3 hours to do, including adding new oil it may be under $100 if you had to pay. This sure beats the old method of changing out the oil cooler.

Just called the parts department at my local dealer and ordered two (2) of ML3Z-6A606-A (Anti-drain back Oil Plug) to have on-hand just-in-case:
  • Available from Ford parts warehouse
    • My dealer's parts department will have by Thurs morning this week
  • Cost per part: $16.32 + tax
  • I will be picking them up Friday morning
    • Bringing my truck is to get driver-side power running board motor and hinges replaced under extended warranty
    • Will post some pics of the new part revision on Friday
Finally, the gods at Ford have listened to it owners! Or maybe they got tired of wasting $4-5K (new oil cooler assembly + new injectors + new injector hard lines + labor) in warranty claims due to a 10-15 second bad decision by an oil change tech and figured out selling the rubber stopper for 10x its cost was more cost effective....

Thanks to @mrjake for posting the TSB and to @Dunrollin for starting this new thread on the topic.

Question, is this Anti-drain back Oil Plug (ML3Z-6A606-A) the same part that was originally installed in the truck? Or is this an improved Anti-drain back Oil Plug that will stay in place better that the original?

Went to the dealer today:
  • to get my driver's side power running board fixed under extended warranty
  • stopped into Parts department to pick up ML3Z-6A606-A I ordered on Monday
    • Rubber anti-drainback stoppers did not come in yesterday (as promised)
      • Ford parts warehouse does have 100 in stock
      • Ford parts warehouse "released" the parts to be shipped
    • Looks like they got included in their standard "stock" order (no tracking) = in transit
    • Might be in tomorrow morning
Sorry for the tease yesterday, but no pics today!

Just saw this post.... This is great news..Calling PARTS and getting a couple backup's . Hope this puts an end to the costly repairs caused by this design.. In my case Ford did the oil change , Ford paid for the repair .. but it was painful to see my truck and what had to be removed / replace. THANKS TO ALL for staying on top of this .

    • Nub is more like a duck-bill shape now
    • Looks like the one that Doug posted showing his new/sacrificial oil cooler housing
  • Pics are attached below (sorry for the blurriness on the close-up shots)

Looks like that new design anti-drainback valve will stay in its intended position reliably.
To prevent engine failures because of dislodged anti-drainback valves and the resulting low oil pressure, I'm thinking Ford should do a recall on these engines and replace these valves with the new design.

Mine is from 2018 (1st model year) and it has this duck bill design. What does the different version plug look like?

I ordered one and the dealer cancelled it because it was backordered and they don't like to keep items on backorder 😡.

Which dealers are you all ordering from that are actually delivering?

Just ordered from Phil Long Ford in Colorado Springs - not back ordered - be here by EOW.. Tried to order from FORD OEM Direct but what a scam that turned out to be. Ordered from them back on 10/29 but kept getting delayed. Called them and was told they did receive those parts but apparently sent them to folks who ordered AFTER I did but who paid big bucks for expedited shipping.
