Had my oil changed today in my 2018 f150 and the dealer used xo10w30qsdf instead of the recommended oil. I asked them about it and they told me Ford changed the recommended oil after I bought my truck. Will it hurt anything to leave it in there?

@Blood250r - I'm calling BS on your dealer -- betting the Parts department got caught-with-their-pants-down and didn't have the Motorcraft® SAE 5W-30 (Full Synthetic) or 10W-30 (Synthetic Blend) F-150 Diesel Motor Oil on the shelf when they went to go do your oil change or the oil change tech (usually low-man on totem poll) didn't know that the F150 PS Diesels take a new/different diesel oil...

I've got a call into my Service Manager to double-check but I would be asking your dealer for this "change" in black-and-white because I don't think this change ever occurred. Ford certainly hasn't pulled any of the YouTube videos promoting/explaining this new WSS-M2C214-B1 oil specification: Ford Tech Talk: Motorcraft® F-150 Diesel Motor Oil (Updated Aug 2019)

@Blood250r - You paid good $$$ for your dealer to change your oil with the correct oil!

If I were you, I would be walking into the Service Manager's office to:
  • Notify him of Ford's current position on the WSS-M2C214-B1 oil specification
  • Ask him what the proper oil that is to be used in an F150 PS Diesel
  • Ask him why the wrong oil was added to your vehicle
  • Demand that the WRONG oil his tech installed be drained & oil/filter replaced with the proper oil for your vehicle
If he refuses, then ask for in writing this BS "change" and how this change will not void your Ford vehicle warranty.
If he refuses again, then find your dealership's General Manager to discuss this issue & employee behavior

I would expect this kind of behavior out of a Quick-change oil change business, but this is unacceptable behavior coming from a dealership that you are paying a premium for the correct Ford-certified service to be performed.

The fact that Ford couldn't answer you question definitively should be enough of a reason to demand the replacement.

I'm calling BS on this answer as well. The parts manager actually had to argue with the service manager on which oil to use when I had my last oil change. The parts manager made sure for me that the full synthetic was used. I don't trust the service department to use the correct oil on their own.

No explanation really, just wanted to make sure after they changed my oil I put in a positive survey. He wasn't sure if they put the right filter in or not. It's bad when a customer knows more about the vehicle than the service manager.

@Blood250r - agreed = pretty sad!

Service Manager is more worried about positive surveys rather than doing the right job...
=> Pretty sad that you had to resort to dinging them on a survey to get a resolution
=> Surveys are one of the few things they pay attention to because GMs don't like being chastised by corporate
=> I'd be looking for a new dealership as this attitude and lack of pride is permeating up thru their management ranks

Thanks for the follow-up/feedback!
