One time same thing happened to me and I did total destruction to the filter. I took a long drill bit, maybe a 1/4" by 12" and drilled through the plastic housing and used the drill as a handle to twist it off. Way to much pucker factor on that one.

 

I had the same thing happen with the filter being stuck in the housing. I disconnected the fuel lines and unbolted the housing from the frame. This made it easier to break apart the filter to get it removed while working on the bench. I have changed it 2 times since then with no issues.

 

Thanks for the reply fellas. The dealership was able to change them for me (135 bucks later) which I hate to do on something so simple but hoping it isn't an issue in the future.

 

I had troubles before I started using the notched socket its much easier to remove the filter. I used a chain wrench before that

 

I have had this happen once, plastic was stripped out and broken. don’t use a 12 point socket always 6 point or specialty type. Anyways I had to make a hole all the way through it and insert a long screw driver to get it to turn off. In order to do this I had to disco hoses, wire harness and R3 move it from truck. A real pain, good luck with it.
