FSA 18E02: EGR By-pass valve replacement

This is a bummer. I have leads (today in fact) on a new 2018 3.0 with under 1000 miles, dealer demonstrator, great price...BUT, it has not had this EGR update. I am very disappointed at the thought of new truck having to be disassembled, or worse yet, the screw(s) have already been swallowed!

Thanks guys, I purchased this truck today and will get it next week. The parts arrive FedEx red label Monday and repairs are scheduled with the service department. I got what I wanted, the color, and RARE front bench seat Lariat, for a smoking price.

Took all day to get it done! This was the dealer's first. When I asked the tech if I could look at the old EGR, he showed me and both screws intact. Later I asked if new valve/part # looked any different he said no. SO, I hope Ford used Loc-Tite on new part's screws! I confirmed with Parts Department they ordered the new number on the recall.

Drained coolant, removed fender well, and steering shaft. Sadly, while tech appears to be a wonderful "heavy diesel mechanic", his finishing up lacks a little. I had to reinstall all the wiring harness "clips" to keep wires in place, 10 minute job, and will have to do replace some screws he left out of the fender well.

Dunrollin I am headed to carwash this morning to rinse off the antifreeze, which is all over the place! Like someone mentioned, it does has warranty and now that the part has been changed, I hope to stay away from the dealer as well.

I am finding more things tech did not do. Apparently only thing he DID do was change the EGR, I can confirm that. All the wiring was hanging, didn't bother to zip tie anything back where it was. Bolts holding the coolant pipes are missing. Worst part is he did not reinstall, the fuel line brackets! I am in contact with dealer to see if parts can be located or he will be ordering some. I have access to another truck and am using it for reference to put mine back together. No. I will not be taking back to where I bought it for repairs. This my friends is why I hate to take vehicles to dealerships.

I have done my own mechanic work since high school, a long time ago. If it wasn't for those years of experience, it would be overwhelming. These little diesels are tight fitting and my cut up hands tell I have been working on it. Two days since the recall fiasco, all I lack is the 2 fuel line brackets. Thankfully I found the 2 stud bolts tech removed, one laying on the frame and the other caught in a tight spot! These special are used to attach the missing top fuel line bracket. Tech used a regular bolt so I changed it out today and await the bracket. Sadly, dumba$$ tech broke all the neat Ford zip tie brackets. He simply yanked them off, instead of using side cutter to remove factory zip tie. So now, I have been prying the should-have-been reusable holders out and replacing with black zip ties. UGH

I am beyond fed up. This is simply malpractice. If these brackets didn't matter I doubt Ford would have put them there.

Yes, none of my brackets were bolted, all wiring harness hanging with all broken clips, and 2 brackets missing entirely!

Well, the top missing fuel line bracket seems unavailable. Two dealers looking for it, but to their defense, it is not in any parts breakdown. One would think it would be in same pic as the lower bracket, which I did get and installed, but it is nowhere to be found. They escalated it to Ford direct, we will see if Dearborn plant has one to spare! UGH!!!!

@wreedsvt I have a very poor clip I took before I went in the 2nd time- they had just left everything disconnected. Hope you can open and see this as it may help you locate the 2 brackets on your truck. Good luck!

I wish mine was done so kindly. My harness clip were all broken. My fuel line brackets missing, idiot dealer mechanic. Thanks for the video

I just took my unit in at about 4500 miles for the first oil change, 18E02, and 18N04.

After a couple of days (they had to order an extra gasket, I was told), they have come back and said that I was missing one of the screws on the valve in the EGR unit. They're now awaiting instructions from Ford on what to do now.

To their credit, they proactively gave me (without asking) a loaner from the very beginning. Of course, now I'm worried that the engine has to be pulled, or, at the very least, the top end disassembled.

UGH!!!!

that is terrible news. There was a pickup with 4000 miles in the shop that did mine it too had swallowed a screw. It lost compression in #4 cylinder and will likely get a new engine.

Stupid me, I did get to see the old valve, which had both screws, but did not ask to see the new valve. Parts Department said it was the new number listed on the recall, but I should have looked at the new valves screws to make sure it was indeed different.

Oh well, it is all covered under warranty, just my peace of mind suffers
