Anyone else have this recall show up today in their FordPass app?

Field Service Action Number: 18E02

FSA Title: EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION BY-PASS VALVE REPLACEMENT

Last Updated: 01/25/19

Be advised that this system tracks Recalls and Customer Satisfaction Programs for which vehicles are subject to repair in the United States. The information provided is subject to change and update. There may be temporary delays in update of information on this site due to a number of factors. For the latest information regarding the status of your vehicle or any recall program of Ford Motor Company, please contact your local dealership directly or the Customer Relationship Center.

A recall is an action by the Company to remedy a safety concern related to a vehicle defect or regulatory requirement. It may require that you return your vehicle to the dealer for service. If your vehicle is not affected, it may be because it was built at a different time or using a different part than the affected vehicles.

Called my local dealer today to schedule mine. They said they need it for at least a day and a half. I said ok, as I would rather they take the time to do it rite. I say when can I drop it and get a loaner or a rental from them. He tells me they are not going to give me a loaner or pay for a rental???wtf. He tells me ford is not including rentals or loaners costs in the recall.. I say, I guess they wouldn't since its only supposed to be a 3.2 hour job, and its not my fault that you are going to take longer. Long story short they refused. So i got on the phone to file a complaint with Ford. Got a case number, Now it is wait and see if Ford fixes this. I'll keep you posted

I got a loaner for 3 days

Howdy everyone. Been reading all the posts for this issue....crazy! I just put mine for this on Saturday (3-9). Said it would take 2-3 days. Not good for me. I live 3 hours away from the dealership. But they were nice enough to offer to come pick it up from my house and leave me a loaner, or have me drive it down to them and they would give me a loaner. (Lets be honest, I don't like anyone driving my vehicles, esp when they are a week old). so I, drove it down there and they gave me a loaner. I also told them I wanted my free oil change, and they were really shocked that I was asking for my free oil change with only 1158 miles on it. But I said, this will be the last time Im here and I want my oil change. Overall, so far been please with their service and willingness to help in any way. Sadly though, city boys don't understand when giving rentals. Said I drive on a 12 mile dirt/wash-out road country road everyday for work. So, they give me a 2018 F350 (gas) xl supercap and long bed 4x4..... talk about a bumpy, fuel burning beast. I got the 150 PS for the fuel economy....which btw 1158 miles only used 1 and 2/3 tank of fuel, now in this thing ive gone 412 miles and filling up....so looks like ill be filling up at least 2 more times before I get my 150 back.

My kit was also apparently missing the gasket and bolts, they got it in 1 day though. FedEx Red Overnight or something.

Called Dealer today to set up appointment for the egr recall. its going in on 3/19/2019 but NOW they need it for three days?? They gave me some b*llsh*t line about it not fitting on their heavy duty lift?? From what I can tell from other posts they don't even need a lift to do the work. And to top that my brother (a mechanic) says at their garage they would only use their heavy lift to pick up any pickup. btw, have had my truck on their heavy lift and fits just fine. Also for those people that don't know anything about lifts. They are universal, as long as you don't exceed the weight limit of the lift your good to go. Any one else ever hear of this?? My brother had a good laugh about the B S about the lift.
My brother ( 30+years mechanic ) and I have looked at my truck and he thinks it shouldn't take more than a half day to do this in my driveway( without a lift ) If I knew I wouldn't possibly have warranty issues down the road, I would and could do this myself.
Well anyway they are going to pick up the tab for a three day rental, so they are just going to lose more money on this job.

Took my truck in on Thursday after waiting for three weeks because I wouldn't leave it without a loaner. They said to have it there by 8:00 a m on Thursday. Called today (Friday) and they haven't even started on it yet so will be driving the POS loaner over the weekend. I am worried that the mechanic may not know what he is doing. Should I ask to see all of the parts they replace to be sure the screws didn't get sucked into the motor. Has me worried.

Mine is going in next Thursday. I’m asking to see the new replacement by pass valve when I drop it off, and I want to see the one that is removed before I sign anything. Also im taking a good few pictures under the hood and overall area of the truck they will be working around. Also going request they use new coolant out of fresh bottle rather than the coolant they catch from the truck into a dirty catch tray. Not sure they will and it’s too hard to watch over their shoulder but it’s worth asking.

I just took my unit in at about 4500 miles for the first oil change, 18E02, and 18N04.

After a couple of days (they had to order an extra gasket, I was told), they have come back and said that I was missing one of the screws on the valve in the EGR unit. They're now awaiting instructions from Ford on what to do now.

To their credit, they proactively gave me (without asking) a loaner from the very beginning. Of course, now I'm worried that the engine has to be pulled, or, at the very least, the top end disassembled.

UGH!!!!

that is terrible news. There was a pickup with 4000 miles in the shop that did mine it too had swallowed a screw. It lost compression in #4 cylinder and will likely get a new engine.

Stupid me, I did get to see the old valve, which had both screws, but did not ask to see the new valve. Parts Department said it was the new number listed on the recall, but I should have looked at the new valves screws to make sure it was indeed different.

Oh well, it is all covered under warranty, just my peace of mind suffers

I am getting paranoid now. My truck has 14K on it and was in the shop a month ago and they supposedly ordered the EGR parts. Checked in last week and they still were not in. WTF is the deal? I am supposed to go on a road trip Thursday and I don't want to drive it...

Would like to avoid a motor swap. Everything is running as it should.

When I asked them about recall, it took about a week to get my parts and they were installed in 2 days. They even did not get bolts and gaskets first day, but they were able to have them Fedex overnighted and had the truck done the next day. My dealer said it was the 3rd or 4th EGR recall they had done. It seems they had competent mechanics because mine was done correctly and everything put back like it was suppose to be.

I really think this is a dealer thing, there are some good dealer service departments and others suck. I asked a couple till I found one I was comfortable with. Dealers with "diesel truck shops" in the back are where you want to go if you can find one! Thats all those guys do all day is repair and maintain Ford Diesels.

Worst Case

Here is my truck in its current state. Apparently it ate the screws! 2018 F150 King Ranch 5800 miles...... They tore down the motor this week and verdict is need two new pistons and new cylinder head. So what should we do. Do not want the truck back did not spend what we all spent on these trucks for a refurbished shop built motor and cab that will not be the same. Any advice would be appreciated.

Lemon law lawyer maybe? Have you talked to selling dealer GM? What does he say? Have you asked for a new truck?

I smell a class action law suit.

@codywroberts@gmail.com so sorry to hear this news about your truck. For the amount of money we shelled out for these trucks I am in the camp of not accepting anything short of a brand new engine out of the crate, if not a completely brand new truck.

I know it was a short period of 2018 production that is impacted by this, but I would think Ford will lose potential new 3.0 customers if they don't take care of those impacted properly.

I am an idiot! I am angry at myself as much as Ford. As you may remember I took my truck back due to wiring not re-connected and the fuel line being loose at both ends. It was a frustrating affair as the AC quit while they had it and it involved a few more days of this utter joke. I checked it when I got it back and it looked OK.

Today I took time to closely inspect the work. Three glaring issues remain.

First the lower front fuel line bracket is apparently broken off. It looks OK until you touch it. It consists of a black rubber bushing that attaches to another bracket on the engine.

Second the oil dipstick is just hanging there, totally unattached. That is what attracted my attention as it kind of looks OK.

Third is some device that is just hanging on, I see where it is to be attached but it is loose. I have no idea what it is or does. I will post some crappy photos and edit this to try to explain better.

1st photo: That mystery part just hanging there. It is back against the firewall and you can see the hole it should be attached to. The device is the aluminum looking thing with two screws visible on top.

2nd photo: oil dipstick. Arrow points to attaching hole.

3rd photo is almost worthless but shows the lower front fuel hose bracket area. I really wish I was able to present these issues better but it is dark and crowded down there.

I went back to the excellent photos wreedsvt provided earlier in this thread. I took a composite photo of his engine on the right and mine on the left and it is clear they just threw a bracket away! It is the larger square bracket with the two arrows pointing to it- it is just missing on my truck.

Dunrolinn it looks like the oil dipstick bracket is gone?

Mine was missing the fuel bracket you still have (BTW that bracket is not listed in Ford catalog--they robbed it off a truck that swallowed a screw and awaiting new engine!). I have the part number stamped on that fuel bracket.

I didn't study the dipstick but thought that bracket was part of the dipstick tube? Is the dipstick still solidly mounted?

#184 ·
You are correct! I took wreedsvt's photos out there and compared. If I lift the oil dipstick bracket up and attach it to the thingabob with 2 screws it will solve some of the issues.

Boy, I really hate that I let Ford work on their truck LOL.

I am about to leave FL for up north so no time to get this done here. I printed out the whole recall procedure and I have a diesel mechanic friend up there who says he can re-do the whole procedure and check torque values and such. It will cost me a few hundred but will put this whole debacle to rest finally. I will never again let someone who is unqualified to work on a lawnmower take my engine apart!

Amen, my teenage son would have done a better job hands down.

At least you have some photos to go by. Oil tube bracket goes on first to EGR with bolt and studded bolt, then the fuel line bracket. I have studied it, unfortunately, for a month. Bottom stud bolt holds small exhaust tube to block FYI, it is the other stud that holds the fuel line bracket.

I too have more photos of a brand new pickup and hands on knowledge if you need help.
