Thanks, just one day at a time.

Hoping for good news soon. A brief recap, I took it in originally for the EGR valve recall, no symptoms at all. 4 days and a lot of arguing and I got it back but what a mess! Took it back and they had it 2 days- when I picked it up AC had quit. 2 ore days and it was mine again. I looked and all seemed well. Only later did I realize many of my original complaints about their work were still present. No desire to return there so I went to next town over and got the PCM reflash recall done and as I was passing by the original EGR dealer it all happened.

They never discussed if the old valve had problems or anything.

Now the good part. On March 28, next Thursday, we leave for WV for 6 months. I still have my trusty old 2013 F150 so the trip is still on regardless.

Does anyone have updates on this recall. My 2018 3.0L just had the light come on at 9,000 miles and appears to have a knocking noise coming from the engine. It just went to the dealership today.
That does not sound good, seems like we have another victim. I am sorry :(

Did you notice the codes the engine threw? Could be something not EGR related at all. Also did the info center on the console give you any messages?

Hope it is something simple!

Alright, this has officially become a little too crazy for me...

@kdjasper and I have been PMing about all of this, since he did a really nice post earlier on in this thread with a summary of all affected owners that we know about from new members who have chimed in with status of their truck on this thread.

I took the time to scour thru this thread to find all affected owners to date and stuck them in a spreadsheet attached below

I plan to create a new thread for just for owners with affected vehicles only to report their date/mileage/codes and we can keep the banter & opinions contained in this thread.

@kdjasper is going to talk to the forum administrator to see if we can get the new report thread made to be "sticky" that stays on the top of the 3.0L V6 Diesel forum.

Any affected owners who want to "fill-in-the-blanks" for missing info or correct anything wrong/incorrect in my spreadsheet, please PM me or respond back on this thread:
  • I think everyone here will appreciate if affected owners post ANY codes that show up so we can build a knowledge base here
  • Looks like the first symptom is the EGR cooler CEL which indicates the bypass valve is not working and you probably lost a screw
  • If you get P259E (TURBO BOOST PRESSURE LOW) or P042E (EGR CONTROL STUCK OPEN), then you may be on your way to engine bucking & eventual engine failure
I will try to keep this spreadsheet up-to-date as new affected owners report in.

Thanks in advance to everyone.

Just got the check engine light last Friday. Was hoping it might be something other than this... unfortunately it started knocking this morning, literally on the way to the dealership! Worst part is I had it in the shop two weeks ago and asked them to take care of the recalls. They told me not to worry about the 18E02 recall unless the light came on.

@jevalek77 - my personal opinion is that your dealership's service department is either a.) bunch of morons or b.) being told by Ford US to stall because they don't have an adequate supply chain for all of the pieces in the EGR By-pass valve FSA kit and/or 3.0L diesel crate engines.

This is turning into a huge PR black eye for Ford's #1 selling vehicle with this brand new engine option.

Not sure about other owners, but I own exactly one (1) and only (1) vehicle: My 2018 Ford F150 Diesel Platinum, so I don't have the luxury of a another vehicle in the household or a backup truck, as other members do. I would not be very happy if Ford knew this issue existed and then told you to come back when the Check Engine light comes on...

Regardless, I do wish you luck and hope that you don't need a new engine, but your symptoms are becoming all too familiar with the trend in this thread...

I am going to go with A.

@jmperlik nice job on putting this spreadsheet together.

I have a few additional attributes I would like to see added to the spreadsheet:

- truck build date
- truck build plant (e.g., Dearborn)
- truck trim line (i.e., Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum)

We know that there is supposed to be a specific build date range where the EGR is an issue, so capturing truck build date in the spreadsheet will allow us to see if trucks are getting EGR issues outside of the recall build date range.

Are all these F150 diesels assembled in the Dearborn plant (for example)? Capturing this will let us know that. Are F150 diesels only assembled in the Dearborn plant?

Capturing the trim line info will allow us to see if there is a pattern of a specific trim line having most of the issues.

Thanks for taking the lead on this!

So my Lariat 3.0L visited the dealership today for its EGR By Pass replacement. Good News, both screws were still in place. My wife spent the entire day there, was treated awesome by the service department and was updated all day with the progress. PitMan Ford in Guelph ON did a fantastic job. I can’t tell that anything under the hood was touched. Looks completely factory. No missing brackets, loose lines or any coolant in sight. I’ve posted some pictures they took for us during the day.

Mine says Born in Dearborn on the windshield.

On the new EGR, looks like a weld burned in between each screw, could that be it? Crazy how instead of reenginnering the part with better screws, etc...., that do not back out to being with, they just add a weld! Anyone else seeing this?

I wish I would have looked at the new one. Maybe they put Loctite on the screws? We will see I guess!
Probably just torqued down more, to the unlucky ones, they will fall out again. lol :|:crying:

I blew up RBaker's excellent pics, still not too sure what improvement they did but it is hard to imagine these can come apart.
Im with you, even the old one doesnt look like it can come apart. But we are obviously seeing otherwise.
